Growing even more excited by the pat on the back, Freed started to ramble on. “Where did you go? Did you run into any trouble?” He asked quickly, looking Laxus over. Then as if, catching a mistake, Freed backed off and turned away, chuckling to himself quietly.
“Of course Laxus wouldn’t run into any trouble.” Freed answered his own question, as he talked mostly to himself. “I’m a fool just to think about that.”
Laxus took a small step back before calming himself. He knew Freed was only trying to be a…frie-body guard, but he didn’t appreciate being fussed over like a child.
”I’m fine, Freed,” His tone was harsher than he intended, but he didn’t know another way to get his point across.
Before he could even see Freed’s reaction, he faced away and to the woods. “I don’t know where I wound up, I just walked. But,” He paused, wondering if he should even mention this part, but did despite Freed’s possible reactions, “I did run into “trouble”, but that’s the only reason I got stronger.” He stared off in the distance for a few seconds, re-tracing his steps - and bruises - in his mind.

Freed stopped his actions at the reprimanding tone, clearing his throat and nodding. “Sorry Laxus.” He looked off to the side, mentally scolding himself for getting Laxus mad at him. It’s just that Freed sometimes forgets to control himself when he’s around his long time companion.
Since Freed was lost in his own thoughts, he didn’t really process Laxus’s words at first and only nodded politely. “Oh I see.” Then after a second, Freed snapped his head over to look at the Dragon Slayer, frowning slightly as he finally caught what he said. “Wait, so you did have trouble?” Freed repeated, becoming slightly serious and a bit ticked that someone caused Laxus trouble. However, Freed remained calm and crossed his arm across his chest. “Well so long as you have earned strength and came home safe.”
Laxus nodded. “I was ambushed by a small dark guild. I don’t care enough to remember their name, especially since they’re no longer in business.” He felt the corner of his mouth twitch into a smirk because of that. “They left me a pretty nasty scar on my back, but that’s the only lasting mark.” His voice went quiet on the last words, a bit ashamed of himself for getting hurt in the first place. Because he was Laxus Dreyar after all, and he did not get that hurt from such weaklings.
He turned back to Freed and couldn’t help but give a soft smile. Because he forgot that he had…friends here, and that he was back at Fairy Tail, back home.
”Yeah, that’s the good part.”
